In a groundbreaking fusion of music, artificial intelligence, and decentralized technology, Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman has teamed up with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and the Hedera Foundation to launch Secret Mountain, an immersive metaverse project powered by Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR).
The collaboration was formalized during Rahman’s recent visit to OpenAI’s headquarters in San Francisco, where he met with Altman to discuss the project’s vision: a virtual global band enhanced by generative AI, built on the blockchain, and rooted in multicultural representation.
“It was a pleasure to meet @sama at his office… we discussed ‘Secret Mountain’, our virtual global band, and how AI can empower Indian minds to solve generational challenges,” Rahman posted on X.
What Is Secret Mountain?
Secret Mountain is envisioned as a Web3-native digital universe, blending AI-generated music, animated avatars, and cross-cultural storytelling. The platform allows users to interact with “MetaHuman” avatars—musical personas representing diverse cultures including India, China, Africa, and more.
These avatars, powered by OpenAI’s generative tools, are capable of real-time music creation and collaboration, offering fans and creators a new form of musical expression within an immersive environment.
With Hedera Hashgraph serving as the digital backbone, Secret Mountain introduces a novel system for identity, ownership, and royalties in the metaverse. According to Vignesh Raja from the Hedera Foundation, the platform will use Hedera’s DLT to ensure transparent revenue sharing and verifiable composition rights, reinforcing creator sovereignty in the AI age.
Rahman’s own GoodFellas Studio and Qyuki Digital Media are leading the music production side, while OpenAI powers the AI components. Hedera facilitates blockchain-based tracking and verification, ensuring artists and contributors retain control over their creations.
Empowering Indian Creators Through AI
A key focus of the project is India. Rahman emphasized that Secret Mountain will act as a bridge to connect Indian creators with cutting-edge AI and Web3 technologies, helping them scale their talents globally.
His recent callout to “@chatgptindia” on X further reinforces the mission to uplift Indian youth through digital innovation and cultural expression.
The Secret Mountain announcement coincides with a surge in Hedera ecosystem activity. Over the past month, HBAR has jumped 93%, rising from $0.14 to $0.30, driven by growing developer engagement and excitement around new Web3 applications like Secret Mountain.
